The Instituto de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales (Institute of Economic and Social Research) of the Universidad de los Andes is a body attached to the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Sociales (Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences). It was founded in 1958 due to the urgent need for providing a suitable knowledge and interpretation of the Venezuelan Andean region economy.

          Since it was founded, the Institute has conducted several researches on the economic field; it has been helpful for the study of Regional Science and for the provision of a basic informative structure for the study of the Andean region.
